Tom of Finland is a musical written by Tuomas Parkkinen and composed by Jussi Vahvaselkä and Jori Roosberg about Touko Laaksonen, his art and worldview, joy and pride.
The musical recounts how Touko Laaksonen evolved into Tom of Finland. It tells the tale of the talented, peculiar son of two teachers living in Kaarina who became the most famous Finnish artist in the world. A man who drew his fantasies in a way that was so real and relatable that millions of men found themselves, their sexuality and even more: Tom’s drawings gave them a reason to open their eyes in the morning. And for the majority, Laaksonen’s art lifted the veil into a world that had, up until then, been unknown, in the shadows, even forbidden and punishable. The musical challenges the audience to ponder the possibility that Touko Laaksonen and his art have been among the greatest influencers to promote tolerance, equality and non-discrimination in the world,
The courage of Touko Laaksonen created Tom of Finland, the man in leather and the right for millions of people to breathe and love. The world needs role models.

Tuomas Parkkinen writer-director
Tuomas Parkkinen is a playwright, librettist, and opera and theatre director from Helsinki. Parkkinen has written 16 plays, three librettos, musical plays, revues and monologues. He has written the lyrics for over one hundred stage songs.
The strengths of Parkkinen’s literary production include narrative storytelling, intelligent humour and multi-layered characters. Without exception, his plays leave a strong emotional impression. Tuomas Parkkinen’s latest works are the operas Hiljaiset perivät maan (2022), Veljeni vartija (2018) and the musical Tom of Finland (2017), all praised by critics and audiences alike.
Parkkinen has directed, among others, the musicals A Little Night Music (Turku City Theatre, 2011), Jekyll & Hyde (Turku City Theatre, 2013), Next to Normal (Tampere Workers’ Theatre, 2014), Candide (Savoy, 2018), Evita (Seinäjoki City Theatre, 2020), West Side Story (Savoy, 2021), Niin kuin taivaassa (Seinäjoki City Theatre, 2023) and The Addams Family (Turku City Theatre, 2025).

Jussi Vahvaselkä is the artistic director of Linnateatteri, a musical director and composer.
He has created arrangements for several musicals all over Finland, including Cabaret (Turku City Theatre), Les Miserables (Tampere Theatre and ÅST), The Full Monty (Oulu City Theatre) and Sister Act (Samppalinna Summer Theatre).
Vahvaselkä has composed the musicals Varissuo (Turku City Theatre), Frankenstein (ÅST), Tom of Finland (Turku City Theatre) and Seili (Seinäjoki City Theatre).

Jori Roosberg is a Finnish producer and musician. He is the co-composer of Tom of Finland, the Musical. Roosberg used to be known as Jori Sjöroos.
Roosberg is the composer/producer for PMMP. He is also the composer/producer for JOALIN, who started her career in the international market.
Jori and his wife Chisu form the band/songwriter duo ROOS+BERG, who wrote the 2025 UMK winner, Erika Vikman’s ICH KOMME. They represented Finland in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel. Chisu and Jori Roosberg also own the record label 11 ONES. ROOS+BERG have created music for the video game Alan Wake 2 and the TV series Moominvalley.
Jori Roosberg has won several Emma Awards in 2005–2012. He received the Teosto Prize in 2010 and the Finland Award in 2013.
Jukka Haapalainen, choreographer

Jukka Haapalainen has built a long international career as a dance artist together with his wife, Sirpa Suutari-Jääskö, on every continent and in several theatres in Finland. Tom of Finland is Jukka’s second engagement at the Hämeenlinna Theatre.
Haapalainen has an international performance career spanning over 30 years, which includes numerous tours in Asia, America, Australia, and South Africa, as well as in most European countries.
As a choreographer, Haapalainen has worked at venues such as the Finnish National Theatre (Lear, 2024), Tampere Workers’ Theatre, Seinäjoki City Theatre (Evita, 2020; As It Is in Heaven, 2023), Turku City Theatre (The Addams Family, 2025), and Hämeenlinna Theatre (The Wolf’s Bride, 2025). Haapalainen has also produced his own dance theatre productions at the Alexander Theatre, Savoy Theatre, Kuopio Dance Festival, Oulu City Theatre, and Theatre Lapua.

Teemu Loikas is a professional in the art of scenography who has designed stage visuals for productions such as the opera The Last Temptations at the Savonlinna Opera Festival and the thriller And Then There Were None at the Seinäjoki City Theatre. Loikas’s work is characterized by visual precision and an ability to create intense spaces that support the performance.

Tuomas Lampinen has worked extensively in costume design with a diverse range of directors and artists, both in Finland and abroad. Lampinen does not shy away from unconventional solutions, and his work often moves along the boundaries of fashion, theatre, and visual arts. Tuomas has received recognition for his work, such as the Säde Award and the Illusion Award.
Lampinen has also worked on numerous theatre and opera productions, which has provided him with a broad network of musicians, choreographers, lighting designers, and set designers. With them, he has built unified, holistic stage worlds for both classics and newer experimental works in numerous theatres. His collaboration with Tuomas Parkkinen began in 2006, and since then, they have created several musical and opera productions together.

Juha Rouhikoski is a lighting designer and light artist from Hämeenlinna, as well as the artistic director for Lux Helsinki. In addition to his work with light, he serves as the production manager at Verkatehdas.
Rouhikoski holds a Master of Arts in Theatre and Drama, having graduated from the Department of Lighting and Sound Design at the Theatre Academy. Rouhikoski is a doctoral student in the fine arts program at the Academy of Fine Arts, where his research topic is light art.

Alex Hautamäki is a lighting and video designer with over a decade of experience working on international and domestic tours, events, television programs, and contemporary circus. He began his career at the age of 15 as a lighting designer for gigs and tours.
In his visual work, he is drawn to strong contrasts and clean overall compositions. Performing arts and installations are also part of his practice. In 2023, he was listed on the New Talent 2023 list by the international Frame:work video designers’ community. This spring, his video design can be seen, for example, in Imatra Theatre’s production of The Da Vinci Code.

Sakari Kiiski has worked as a freelance sound designer and sound technician since the 1990s. His sound design has been heard in productions such as The Phantom of the Opera (Finnish National Opera and Göteborgsoperan), Les Misérables (Tampere Theatre), Myrskyluodon Maija (Helsinki City Theatre) and Slava Kunnia!!! (Finnish National Theatre).
Kiiski first worked at Hämeenlinna Theatre as a sound designer for the musical Tulisiipi, which premiered in autumn 2025.

Petriina Suomela, hair and makeup design
Petriina Suomelahair and makeup design
Petriina Suomela is a wig and makeup designer, a makeup artist, a big dreamer, and a theatre professional who loves the art form with all her heart. Suomela is a qualified hairdresser-barber and holds a Specialist Vocational Qualification in Theatrical Makeup (maskeeraaja EAT).
For almost 20 years, Suomela has worked as a wig and makeup designer and artist in several professional theatres, including Åbo Svenska Teater, Turku and Seinäjoki City Theatres, Samppalinna Summer Theatre, as well as the theatres in Rauma and Pori. This marks her first engagement with the Hämeenlinna Theatre.
Consequently, Suomela’s design work has been seen extensively, primarily on Finland’s west coast. In every production, she strives to leave her own distinct mark as a visible part of the work’s visual identity.

The animations for Tom of Finland The Musical are created by Pekka Järvinen and Topias Airas from Király Production Oy. Király is a production studio specializing in animation and visual effects, founded by two friends, Risto and Pekka, who share a passion for animation and VFX.

Olli Rahkonen graduated as an actor from the Theatre Academy in 2016. He has performed in numerous musicals, including at the Turku City Theatre and the Helsinki City Theatre, and is especially known for his role as Timo Harjunpää in the television series Harjunpää. In recent years, he has appeared in several Finnish films and TV series such as Exit, Mister8, Rosvopankki, Mieheni vaimo, and Armomurhaaja.
Antti Lang | Veli Mäkinen, Edvin Laaksonen
Antti Lang graduated from the Theatre Academy in 2004 and has since worked in theatres across Finland, including Helsinki City Theatre, Tampere Workers’ Theatre, Vaasa City Theatre, and most recently last summer at the Samppalinna Summer Theatre in the musical Jagellonica. Lang has also appeared in television series such as Pohjolan laki, Kotikatu, and Hovimäki.

Natalil Lintala is an actor who graduated from the Theatre Academy in 2012. In recent years, she has gained strong recognition in Finnish musical theatre. Her most recent leading role in a musical was in Seili at Seinäjoki City Theatre in 2024, and last summer she appeared at the Finnish Summer Theatre in Valkeakoski in the musical Vesku, performing in several different roles.
Severi Saarinen | Kake
Severi Saarinen is an actor who graduated with a Master of Theatre Arts in 2012. He is known for numerous musical theatre roles at institutions such as Lahti City Theatre, Helsinki City Theatre, and Turku City Theatre. For wider audiences, Saarinen is familiar from films such as The Unknown Soldier, Laitapuolen hyökkääjä, and Häjyt 2.

Lauri Ketonen is a freelance actor and singer, also known as the Tango Prince of 2022. Specializing in musical theatre, Ketonen has performed numerous musical roles at theatres including Helsinki City Theatre, Seinäjoki City Theatre, and Turku City Theatre. In addition to theatre, he has appeared on television, such as in the series Keihäsmatkat, and has done dubbing work for international productions.
Henna-Maija Alitalo | Delia Mizer, Ms. Walli, granny, a lady in the book club
Henna-Maija Alitalo graduated with a Master of Theatre Arts in 1991, after which her career has focused on Kuopio and Hämeenlinna Theatres. She has appeared in numerous theatre productions, including Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, The Tempest, as well as Hella Wuolijoki’s Niskavuori – Loviisa’s Story. Alitalo has also performed in several summer theatre productions and television series, such as Häräntappoase and Trasselirakastaja. She has been awarded the Finnish Actors’ Union’s Golden Artist Badge.

Despite his young age, Rasmus Koskinen has already gained over ten years of performance experience both on stage and in front of the camera. He has appeared at Porin Teatteri, in several amateur theatres across the Satakunta region, at Valkeakoski City Theatre, in Yle’s series Lasten tasavalta, and in the film Pelle Hermanni. In the summer of 2025, he played young Loiri in the musical Vesku at the Finnish Summer Theatre. In addition to theatre, Rasmus performs as a magician, ventriloquist, troubadour, and drag artist.
Katariina Kuisma-Syrjä | Suoma Laaksonen, wife of the MP, a lady in the book club, Liza Minelli
Katariina Kuisma-Syrjä is an actor at Hämeenlinna Theatre, where she has been a permanent member of the ensemble since 1993. She has since appeared in a wide range of roles, including in Spermasodat, the musical Autiotalo, and the play Yksityiset tähtitaivaat. On television, Kuisma-Syrjä is particularly remembered for her role as Hellä Lehmus in the popular series Maalaiskomedia.

Mikko Matikka is a professional dancer from Tampere, currently living in Helsinki, and works as a dance instructor at the studio of Jukka Haapalainen and Sirpa Suutari-Jääskö.
Matikka has been dancing since childhood—over 28 years now—and is currently exploring all the possibilities his skills can offer. He is a newcomer to the theatre scene, having participated in the Tanssii Tähtiin Tour 2025 and as a dancer in TV productions such as Masked Singer and Tanssii Tähtien Kanssa.
He has trained through private lessons with professionals from around the world, both Finnish and international. Matikka is passionate about anything related to the body, self-expression, play, movement, and touch.

Jyri Ojansivu graduated from the Theatre Academy in 2015. He has previously worked at, among others, Oulu and Kotka City Theatres and has appeared in television and film. Since 2023, he has been working at Hämeenlinna Theatre. His best-known film role is in Jarmo Lampela’s Nuoren Wertherin jäljillä (2013), and television audiences became familiar with him during the 14th season of Putous in 2022.

Pablo Ounaskari is an actor from Helsinki, currently pursuing master’s-level studies at the Theatre Academy. Having grown up in both Spanish and Finnish cultures, Ounaskari is set to graduate with a Master of Theatre Arts in spring 2027. He has appeared in several film and television productions and on stage, including Frankenstein at the National Theatre and the musical Myrskyluodon Maija at Helsinki City Theatre.

Samuli Pajunen is an actor and musical theatre performer from Kuopio. He has appeared in musicals at several Finnish theatres, and in recent years he has worked at Helsinki City Theatre, where he will continue performing in the 2025–2026 season.

Jonas Saari is an actor who graduated with a Master of Theatre Arts from the Theatre Academy in 2015. Since then, Saari has performed extensively in various theatres, particularly in vocally demanding musicals, such as Vampyyrien tanssi at Helsinki City Theatre, Tom of Finland at Turku City Theatre, Poikabändi and Kinky Boots at TTT, and Hiljaiset sillat at Turku City Theatre. Lasse Sandberg is an actor from Hämeenlinna whose career began in 1991 as a trainee actor at Hämeenlinna Theatre. Over more than 30 years, he has become well known, particularly on the stages of Hämeenlinna Theatre and Hämeenlinna Summer Theatre. Sandberg has also made guest appearances at, among others, Tampere Comedy Theatre and has appeared on television and in commercials.

Aleksi Seppänen is a professional dancer, musical theatre performer, and osteopath based in Helsinki. He has been involved in musicals since 2002 and became well known to a wider audience through the show Tanssii Tähtien Kanssa, in which he first appeared in 2007.

Sara Soikkeli, originally from Taipalsaari, is a musical theatre professional graduating from Tampere University of Applied Sciences in spring 2026. Jaakko Wuolijoki is an actor and musician from Tampere. He has performed at, among others, Tampere Theatre, Tampere Comedy Theatre, and Linnateatteri. His most notable roles include Dewey Finn in TTT’s musical School of Rock and Ville Fränti in the drama series Rantabaari on Maikkari, a role he has played since 2019.

Iina Sihvonen is an actress from Hämeenlinna. She has appeared in productions at Hämeenlinna Theatre, including Tulisiipi, Irwin and Varjojen Vanajanlinna. In addition to acting, she sings, plays the violin, dances, composes music, is working on her first short film, and is a mother to three wonderful daughters.

Antti Paranko is a guitarist and singer from Hämeenlinna. He works extensively in the music industry as a musician, theatre conductor, composer, arranger and producer. Jari Salminen is one of Finland’s most in-demand drummers. Over the course of his more than 25-year career as a musician, he has performed with some of Finland’s best-known artists and bands, including Anna Puu, Poets of the Fall, Chisu, Paleface, Kaija Koo, Anna Eriksson and Rodeo. He also has an extensive international career, having performed in more than 35 countries.
Jani Auvinen | Drums
Jani Auvinen is a versatile musician from the Pirkanmaa region who has been involved in a wide range of musical projects.
Leo Kunnas | Drums
Leo Kunnas is a versatile drummer from Hämeenlinna. He graduated from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences with a degree in Music Pedagogy in 2010. Kunnas has performed live and in the studio with numerous star solo artists. His work with the Finnish Armoured Band (Panssarisoittokunta) and cover band Jimmy Colassa has taken him to a wide range of venues across Finland, from living rooms to festival stages, and from the Presidential Palace to ice hockey arenas.
